SEPEMBER Classes and Events

Knit Night

Thursday, September 7th, 5:30 to 7:30 (or so)… at Caveman Coffee Cave & Lounge (formerly HQ Santa Fe), 411B Water Street

Join us for beer, champagne, or coffee, and snacks (easily accessible at the food truck or the restaurant next door). We’ll get our knit and crochet on and enjoy this local venue! (A Designated Knitter will be provided.)

Crochet 101               $35                  Saturday, September 9th, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In this class you will learn how to hold yarn and hook and learn the four basic crochet stitches that are the foundation for all crochet. The class will cover chain, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch, plus how to turn your work, how to count your stitches, and the basics of reading patterns. You will leave class with a finished square--or the beginning of a scarf, if you’re fast and ambitious. Materials needed: one skein of worsted weight yarn in a light, solid color; size H/8 hook. No experience necessary.

First Sweater: Top-Down Baby Sweater         $50      Saturdays, September 16th and 23rd, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn the basics of sweater-making while knitting this easy top-down baby sweater. The sweater is seamless, knit in the round, and has buttonholes. This construction is found in many adult-size sweater patterns, so you’ll be able to adapt your new skills to make a sweater for yourself! Materials: US8 24” circular needles; 210 yards of worsted weight yarn (enough for newborn size).

 Filet Crochet         $25                  Saturday, September 30th, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Learn this simple crochet technique. If you’ve mastered double crochet, you can do Filet Crochet. Filet crochet is used on table cloths, table runners, doilies, and other “illustrated” pieces. In class we’ll discuss how to find designs for alphabets, common objects, and how to sketch out your own design using graph paper. Materials needed: Fingering weight yarn, E or F hook.
